What Is This Place?
Hi! My name’s Mike Markarian, and I am the founder and editor of Hard Truths.
I originally started this website as a political blog to analyze the 2024 election; however, my scope has since expanded to include economics and history. My latest series, The Unwritten Rules Break First, is a combination of all three disciplines—examining the Roman Republic’s fall and what we can learn from it. If you’re looking for a place to start, might I suggest there?
I don’t post on a regular schedule. This is because it’s difficult for me to meet arbitrary deadlines without any weight behind them. Also, I only post about topics that I’m truly passionate about, so you get only the best content when I publish.
Who Am I?
I’m a college student in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. I’m currently majoring in economics and finance at my school, but my true passions lie in history and politics. Ever since I can remember, I have been an avid non-fiction reader immersed in the stories of yesteryear. I think that’s partially why I started this blog: to tell stories of my own.

I’m also an avid photographer! You can find some of my favorite shots above. Sometimes, I might post work alongside my writing. People don’t want to see just text, after all…
I was born in New England, so I’m an avid Boston sports fan. You may see me post about sports from time to time. Go Sox!
Anyway, that’s a bit about me and what I do. I hope you enjoy Hard Truths, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you want to learn more!
